Corny is an understatement.
This is one of the worst movies in the Archive. Two stars is being generous.
Worst of all is the phony mountain they made for the film which basaltic but full of caverns - this is a geological impossibility, and the rest of it is not only bad but it was filmed in California where the westerns were filmed. It doesn't look anything like Georgia.
Then the acting is over-dramatic but the characters are undeveloped.

The women's war
Someone once told me that women were more directly involved in fighting the Civil War (on both sides) than in any other war in our history, even though they did not carry rifles. This is the story of one woman's war, though she never fires a shot or even picks up a gun. There is more than one way to fight, and she fights most effectively according to her own abilities. The story may be fiction, and some of the action may not be credible, but the courage, determination, and character that Barbara Payton portrays does exist in the world. I like this portrait of feminine strength, it inspires me.

All's Fair ...
in this well told tale of love and war - spouse cheating, spying, lieing, disobeying orders, killing friends (both old and new), inventing Civil War battles; even mountain moving. And the only aspect of the story I found completely incredulous was the number of times the lead female character Kathy (Barbara Payton) got away with crossing Union lines without getting caught!
7/10

Worth watching... Again!
I know I said it was mediocre in my first review, but a few days have gone by and I find that I can't stop thinking about this film, and that I enjoyed it more than I thought I did at first.
Enough so that I thought I had better pop back in here and tell you so...
It is very much well worth watching.
